Festival of Remembrance

Now in its 5th year supporting Military Charities: RAF Benevolent Fund and Royal British Legion

Now in its fifth year, featuring The Orpheus Singers, The Southend Band and Southend Wind Orchestra together with the standards of the town's military associations, Southend's Festival of Remembrance takes place at the Plaza Centre in Southchurch Road on Saturday 11 November.

This year we are supported by Sir David Amess MP, Southend mayor Cllr. Fay Evans and Castle Point mayor Cllr. Brian Wood as we raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund and the Royal British Legion.

A highlight of this year's Festival will be a commemorative piece entitled Passchendaele, composed by Major Simon Haw MBE of the Coldstream Guards as a tribute to the brave men who gave their lives in 1917 at Passchendaele – one of the bloodiest battles of the First World War. All 150 performers will be taking part.

Also listen out for a medley of songs from the great swing era - Begin the Beguine, Ain’t Misbehavin, Moonlight Serenade and Chattanooga Choo Choo. And to mark the 50th anniversary of Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Heartclubs Band we shall be featuring Brilliant Beatles.
